Game dev

It's music time!

So one of the things in the development of my game that I've been neglecting for a long time is sound-design. I've created a very decent engine for the project, but the whole experience is entirely silent right now. To be fair, this has been pretty low priority, since it's not really been an issue when I've demoed my work at noisy conventions, or shared it with friends, but if I really want to take this thing seriously, I'm going to have to start putting in some music.

Here's the thing though: I've never composed a single thing in my life. I've played a little with instruments in high school, and I once lived for a pretty extended period with an active composer, so I'm not completely blind, but this is definitely going to be a learning experience. To be fair, a lot of things in this development process have been learning experiences, but I'm not really sure where to start with this one.

I've gotten a few bits of composing software, and I'm gonna spend the next few weeks playing around with them. I'll experiment around with simple melodies, play around with different instruments, and just get a feel for what I'm working with. I'm confident that I can do a good job of this. Learning new skills is something I pride myself on being able to do rather well!

Post-birthday exhaustion

So it was my birthday recently; May 7th. The very same day I decided to release my game's concept trailer, and subsequently started setting up this website.

Honestly, I've been feeling so drained ever since putting that out. I worked really hard to get that ready in time for my birthday, and I'm having a bit of a major cool-down now. It's been a while since I've just relaxed and taken a break, and I think that I'm feeling a lot better for it.

I've also been focusing on a few other things outside of my normal work. I've actually been taking driving lessons lately, and I'm feeling pretty good about it. I'm actually kinda surprised that I've hit 25 and still haven't done or even needed it yet. To be fair, it's the kind of thing that can vary a lot depending on where you live, and what your lifestyle is, but I consistently travel and change lifestyles all the time, so it's almost astounding that I've done so without driving yet.

So yea, spending all that time learning to be behind a wheel is also pretty draining, so I'm being really slow to get things done right now. I want to hopefully polish up my game to the point that I can put out a demo within the next month or so, but I really don't want to overwork myself to pull that off, and I'd be uncomfortable putting out a rushed product as my demo.

I also wanted to make a new plushie, and possibly record a new video like I did for my Hydreigon, but I can't exactly do that at the moment, because I accidentally killed my camera by dropping it in the ocean on the north coast of Scotland... I was pretty upset! It was right before my birthday too, so I was a extremely salty that I couldn't take pictures on the actual day.

Anyway, I think I'm finally gonna play a few of the games I've brought on Steam. I haven't had any good gaming sessions in forever, because my work really does eat away at my time!
